Born and raised in Cambria Heights, Queens, NY, Bill now splits his time between his home on Long Island and traveling the country in his Tiffin Allegro motorhome.

 

When not writing, he is busy completing a bucket list of travel adventures. In the past 20 years, he and his wife Marilyn have traveled 140,000 miles. These travels have taken them to the 48 contiguous states, 133 national parks, all 30 major league baseball stadiums, 154 cities and towns, two Canadian provinces, and a variety of unusual experiences and locations. Many of these destinations color  Band in the Wind, as well as its sequels, Sound of Redemption and Brotherhood of Forever.  The novel, The Other Side of the Wind reflects many of the locations and experiences of the author.

In the past, he has published over two dozen non-fiction articles in newspapers and magazines. These writings included four full-page op-eds in  New York Newsday. He was also presented an award by Nelson DeMille for his historical fiction short story, The Last Artifact.

​

Five of his short pieces, many based on the characters in the Band in the Wind - Cambria Trilogy series, were accepted into the Visible Ink Anthology in  2018, 2019, and 2020 2022. 2024. Of all of the work included in this annual literary collection, a dozen are chosen each year for reading and presentation on stage in New York City.

 

In 2018, the piece "Pretty Flamingo" was given this honor. As an encore, "In the Garden of Eden" was performed in 2019. In 2020, "Ava's Bubble" was read by Tony and Emmy nominee Victor Garber.

Fool on the Hill and The Last Chord are the most recent film projects based on the authors short works.

 

Having published over four dozen short stories in his career, he compiled them into two books entitled A Flamingo Under the Carousel and T-Rex Stole My Computer.

In 2023, William John Rostron was executive producer on the film Pretty Flamingo which put a different slant on the story of Johnny Cipp and his life. The script was written by his daughter, Brittany Rostron and received accolades in ten Hollywood and New York competitions. The actual proof of concept film placed first in the New York Long Island Film Festival. The ten minute film may be viewed on www.PrettyFlamingoFilm.com

 

​​​​​In his previous career, the author is proud to have instructed students from the ages of 9 to 90.  Throughout his life, he taught elementary school, middle school, high school, college, adult education, and teacher training.

​

Bill is currently working on the fifth book in his Band in the Wind series titled Dancing With the Lost.
